This robust infrastructure ensures high-speed connectivity and low latency, enabling efficient data transfer and smooth operation of critical applications. In April of 1990, Li Peng, the Premier of the People's Republic of China, officially approved the beginning of the Pudong New Area project. This plan named Pudong as a new special economic zone that was open to foreign investment and was heavily influenced by the goals of the 1946 Shanghai Master Plan.

Modern amenities, sublimely comfortable beds with high thread count linen and lavish marble bathrooms (complete with winged bathtubs) complete the picture. Emerging technologies such as cloud computing, IoT, and AI are expected to drive additional expansion of data center services in Pudong New Area. The district's capacity to accommodate these technologies, coupled with China's supportive regulatory environment and commitment to sustainability, makes it an attractive prospect for future data center investments. Pudong New Area's unique appeal in the data center market is significantly bolstered by its strategic location within Shanghai and its cutting-edge digital infrastructure. Its proximity to major economic centers provides data centers in Pudong New Area with access to a vast market of potential clients and customers. Overall, the data center at 400 Fang Chun Lu, Pudong Xinqu, Shanghai, is designed to provide a secure, reliable, and high-performance environment for data center operations.

Pedestrian walkways navigate both sides of the wetland, accessed from multiple locations along the park’s periphery. The northern, river adjacent portion of the park includes earthen paths while the southern, features wooden boardwalks sited at different elevations. The southernmost path is edged by a linear, red bench, recalling Qinhuangdao Red Ribbon Park, designed two years earlier. Select boardwalks lead to distinct enclosures and sculptural elements, including a steel pavilion, fabricated with materials found on site, which provides shade and frames views. Vernacular industrial remnants and artifacts are integrated into the park’s design, including its tea house. This former factory, painted red and white, serves as a focal point, drawing visitors from a distance.

When I was in Shanghai the hotel was offering two nights for the price of one, so I decided to try it out. Cabs take a while to get there even when called, because it’s on the edge of Pudong construction (but I’m sure in a few months -- or days -- more will be built and it will seem centrally located, because this is the Pudong). Holiday Inn Shanghai Pudong is located in Lujiazui Finance Zone, near Pudian Road Station of Metro Line 4/6, and walking distance from the hotel to the metro station is about 500 meters.

As with many hotels in Pudong, the property is set within a larger complex, in this case the 61-acre mixed-use Harbour City development. One of Pudong’s marquee buildings, the Cesar Pelli–designed Shanghai IFC, is the setting for this 285-room property. Occupying the top 18 floors of the South Tower, the Ritz-Carlton opened in June 2010 during the World Expo and was meant to usher in Shanghai’s status as a global powerhouse. Its design skews modern with hints of 1930s Shanghai, while views take in panoramas of the Bund.
